Turned by Kentucky’s famed Hillerich & Bradsby plant to honor the inaugural Hall of Fame class, this 1936  display lumber (34”, 36-oz) carries a limited edition identifier of “438 of 500.” The relic showcases a deep brown “Walker” finish and gold-colored stampings. Between the prominent center brand and barrel stampings are the names of the five inductees. Includes (from top to bottom): Walter Johnson, Ty Cobb, Christy Mathewson, George “Babe” Ruth and Honus Wagner. Of note is that all are presented in the form of facsimile signatures, with the exception of Christy Mathewson, who is listed in block-letter style. It was H&B’s practice on commemorative bats to list those who used their products in facsimile signature, and those who did not in plain block lettering. This uncracked souvenir presents beautifully, with very minor surface marks and its original glossy finish intact.
