While it’s only a once-a-year event, “Philly Green” rings true as a team tradition right up there with the Phanatic and the club’s rabid fan base. Adopted as an annual staple after Tug McGraw showed up for a March 17 Grapefruit League exhibition with his uniform dyed green, the St. Paddy’s day “green” apparel is worn proudly to this day. This particular ensemble was worn by pitcher Kevin Gross during his tenure (1983-1988) with the club, more specifically, at the Clearwater, Florida spring training site. Includes:

Game-Worn Phillies Jersey: a white knit zippered garment with a green pinstripe pattern, the cursive “P” logo sewn to the left front in green satin twill and “46” sewn to the back in like fashion. Just above the back number, “K. GROSS” is arched on a name plate in block-style numerals (the “K” was present to differentiate between Kevin and teammate Greg Gross). Green trim lines the shoulders and sides, while the cotton-lined collar is home to a “Wilson” size “44” label. Heavy wear is evident, with stains about the upper front and right shoulder.

Game-Worn Pants: white knit leg wear with a green pinstripe pattern, a one-button zippered fly, six belt hoops and two cotton-lined back pockets. Green trim lines the outer legs, while the elasticized waistband’s interior is home to a “Wilson” size “34” label and a flap tag whose contents have faded. Heavy wear is evident with faint vertical stains along both legs.

Also included are: Green Cap (adjustable, as is the team tradition on the one-day event) with a white cursive “P” logo embroidered to the front. A size “LARGE” tag is sewn to the interior sweat band. Shows appropriate one-day wear; Stirrup Socks green knit elasticized accessories; Belt green elasticized item with a metal buckle and leather strap including four holes to facilitate proper fit.
