A rare and complete survivor, this retail pin back button display provides a nostalgic glimpse back on the days of dime store visits and pre-expansion baseball. Measuring 11-1/4 x 16”, the thick stock sheet showcases 12 symmetrically arranged rows of 12 buttons (144 total) with bold proclamations of “Baseball Trade Mark Buttons – 1c – Collect Em! Swap Em! Save Em! Wear Em!” with an artist’s rendition of a slugger and his adoring fans. The sheet appears to be untouched, as circular areas behind the pins have obviously been spared from light-induced discoloration. The teams and logos date the display to 1949-1953 with 13/16” celluloid representations of: (25) New York Yankees (“I Am A Yankee Fan”); (20) Detroit Tigers; (15) Cleveland Indians; (14) Philadelphia Phillies; (14) St. Louis Browns; (13) St. Louis Cardinals; (9) Pittsburgh Pirates; (7) New York Giants (“I Am A Giant Fan”); (6) Chicago White Sox; (6) Philadelphia Athletics; (6) Washington Nationals; (5) Brooklyn Dodgers; (3) Boston Red Sox; and (1) Chicago Cubs. Likely intended for display/sale in the New York area, the gathering has an East Coast bias and represents every team except the Braves and Reds. The display presents beautifully, with expected (but minor) flaws along the periphery. The pins, meanwhile, are pristine!
