Don't remember Tommy Holmes? Alas, few do. Yet the Braves stalwart could do no wrong in '45. A protégé of former teammate Paul Waner, Holmes amassed an NL-record 37-game hit streak (eventually eclipsed by Pete Rose) and went into the All-Star break batting over .400. He finished the season at .352, with a league-leading 28 HRs, 224 hits, 47 doubles, 367 total bases and .577 slugging percentage. Most incredible of all, he only struck out 9 times! And just one of those 9 times did he go down swinging! Indeed, Holmes whiffed a mere 122 times in almost 5,000 career at-bats. This creamy-white ONL (Frick) ball from that sensational season features robust stampings and bold signatures averaging "6-9" (one panel lighter) of Medwick, Coleman, Mack, Heving, Tobin, Bengough, Hofferth, Ulicny, Workman, Earley, Bissonette, Javery, Pyle, Hutchings, Masi, Drews, Holmes, Andrews, Fette. Auction LOA from JSA.
