Joe DiMaggio was certainly a super-achiever. Abbreviated due to WWII military service, DiMaggio's MLB career totaled 13 seasons. Through this duration "Joltin' Joe" won 9 World Series championships, 3 MVP awards, 13 All-Star Game selections and set a still standing record by batting safely in 56 consecutive games. All this and more led to DiMaggio being the most popular player of his day and one of the most revered of all-time.
Show some collecting reverence by claiming this original DiMaggio news service photo. This 5x7 period photo depicts Joe as fairly youthful and looks to have been taken pre-war. This image would eventually be used for the 1948 r346 Blue Tint and 1989 Starting Lineup trading cards. Showing handsome gloss, off-white borders and a sharp facial image, this this classic head shot reports in (GD-VG) condition due to some crease cracks at top left that do not affect the image and a 1/2" tear on the bottom edge near center that extends into the jersey, just short of the collar. Reverse side provenance includes an original period blurb referencing the winning of the AL pennant and the impending World Series appearance, a bar-coded sticker stating the photo came from the collection of noted sports photographer Sy Seidman and a proprietary sticker from Culver Pictures of New York.
