From the age of pillbox caps right up to the current era of multi-million dollar salaries, pitching was and always will be the name of the game. This 1914 instructional pamphlet attests to the importance of the man on the mound. Published by the Baseball Correspondence League of America, this 48-page "Pitching Course" guide measures 3-7/8 x 8-5/8” and is comprised of instructional text and black-and-white photos of contemporary hurlers. Among those offering pitching tips and, more specifically, instructions on their “specialties” are: Christy Mathewson (fadeaway); Ed Walsh (spitball); Walter Johnson (speed ball); Nap Rucker (knuckler); Joe Wood (smoke ball); and Doc White (shadow pitching). Covers and all pages remain intact on this well-kelp and rare survivor. There is minimal wrinkling on the thick-stock soft covers.
