On 11/24/63 Dallas nightclub owner Jack Ruby (d.1967) shot his way into history. Before a live national TV audience, Ruby stepped out from the crowd in the basement of the Dallas Municipal Building and shot John F. Kennedy’s assassin Lee Harvey Oswald point blank in the abdomen. No matter what findings or theories you subscribe to, there’s no denying this was one of the most compelling moments ever seen on television. Already stunned by JFK’s brutal killing two days earlier, those of us who witnessed this event will never forget it.
On 3/12/56 Ruby made a more traditional mark, when he signed the offered “Lone Star Gas Company” deposit receipt for gas service at the address “4156 Hawthorne” in Dallas. Made in the amount of “$10.00”, this receipt number “A 240130” is professionally mounted in a handsome matted display with overall dimensions of 20 x 13-1/8”. This official document remains in excellent condition and is seen in a 6x4 window at bottom center of the display, which also features photos of Oswald and Ruby at left and right respectively, along with the infamous shooting scene at top. Applied to the “Depositor’s Signature” line of the receipt at bottom left, Ruby’s clearly defined signature shows firm (“8-9”) quality. Comes with PSA/DNA photo LOA.
