Nearly 13 years after careers marked by a record 20 first-round knockouts and 417 pitching wins, respectively, former Heavyweight Champion Jack Dempsey and Hall of Fame hurler Walter Johnson returned to the athletic arena (albeit in a spectator capacities) and autographed this vintage admission ticket. Issued on April 17, 1940 at the Hagerstown Armory in Richmond, Indiana, the 4-5/16 x 2-3/4” “General Admission” voucher admitted its bearer to the “All Star Boxing Show” at which Dempsey served as a referee. On the reverse, Dempsey has signed in black wax pencil (“8” strength), while Johnson (d.1946) signed in graphite pencil (“9” strength). The thick stock ticket is affected by a small crease and chip in the upper right corner, though neither of these flaws affects the bold scriptings of this unusual combination!
