Ranking among the most famous and popular of U.S. one cent coins, the 1864 "L on Ribbon" variety is strong candidate for the "buy on sight" list. Scarce in all grades with a survival estimate of only 3,000 pieces, this well-known and highly sought after coin has shown nice growth in value during the 21st Century. The offered 1864-L Indian Head Cent is graded AU53 Details-Corroded by ANACS. Despite the modifier notation, this coin presents handsomely with abundant detail, including a bold "L" and partial diamonds on the ribbon. To the naked eye, any surface corrosion is unobtrusive and even under magnification this 153 year-old coin is generally pleasing.
