Dubbed “The Trolley Dodgers” in 1911, the Brooklyn National League roster was on its sixth of nine mascot changes. The club was not long for its wooden Washington Park venue, either, as owner Charles Ebbets began purchasing lots in 1908 until he owned the whole block and erected Ebbets Field in 1913. This program was issued at Washington Park for a July 19, 1911 game between the Trolley Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals. The eight-page guide is one of few survivors from the since-raised Pigtown site. With covers and crisp pages completely intact, this one is special in that it is free of compacting folds routinely found of stadium-issued publications from this and subsequent eras. The center pages feature scoring grids with pre-printed lineups listing Zack Wheat, Miller Huggins and Roger Bresnahan. The grids have been marked in pencil to document an 8-5 Cardinals triumph (Game 2 of a twin bill).
