Lost on the modern day football fan is the historical significance of the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions. They are, after all, two of the four current franchises that have never been to a Super Bowl. Ah, but in the decade prior to that grand spectacle, Cleveland appeared in seven NFL title contests and Detroit made it four times. This 1957 NFL Championship program is autographed by (14) of that day’s combatants. Issued at Briggs Stadium, the 48-page guide is in remarkable condition with crisp elements completely intact. Additionally, the vast majority of stadium-issued publications from this era are affected by compacting folds. This one has none! Finally, the front cover is home to black marker signatures that average (“9”) strength and clarity. Includes: Terry Barr, Jim Brown, Hopalong Cassady (inscribed “55”), Vince Costello, Lou Creekmur (inscribed “HOF 96”), Jim David (inscribed “#25”), Dorne Dibble (inscribed “#87”), Galen Fiss, Bob Gain (inscribed “79”), Frank Gatski (inscribed “HOF 1985”), Gary Lowe (inscribed “#43”), Joe Schmidt (inscribed “HOF 73”), Paul Wiggin and Roger Zatkoff (inscribed “#57”). Auction LOA from JSA.
