Ever the competitor, Pete Rose never apologized to the victims of a record 4,256 career hits. He ultimately expressed sorrow, however, for bending the rules on the gambling front. This display showcases that written apology, as well as (3) bold Rose autographs. With dimensions of 38 x 33-1/8 x 3-3/4”-deep, this gorgeous shadowbox display is headlined by a Cincinnati Reds home jersey, which is shown from the back with “ROSE” arched atop “14” in red twill. On the angled portion of the “4,” Rose has signed in silver marker (“8” strength) and inscribed “Hit King.” To the left, a snow white OML baseball (grade “10”) is signed by Rose in blue ballpoint on a side panel (“10” strength) with his inscription reading “I’m sorry I bet on baseball.” To the right, an 8x10” color photo shows Rose acknowledging the Riverfront Stadium crown following his 4,192nd career hit, the one that broke Ty Cobb’s seemingly untouchable record. Rose has signed in blue marker (“10” strength) and inscribed “9/11/85 – 4192.” San Diego Padres first baseman Steve Garvey (who appears in the background) has signed, as well (“8-9” strength). Accompanying are basic certs/stickers from JSA.
