Approaching the 75th Anniversary of baseball's National League, Ford Frick (d.1978) had the occasion to send out letters of invitation to a New York City dedication celebration. These letters were sent to those enshrined in the Hall of Fame, inviting them to an event at the site of the Broadway Central Hotel where the NL was founded in 1876, for a plaque unveiling and reception to mark the NL's 75th birthday. Offered is one of these letters addressed to 361-game winner Charles "Kid" Nichols of the HOF Class of 1949. Typed on a crisp sheet of official NL main office letterhead, this interesting correspondence presents in desirable (NM) condition with deference to several original period folds, which are unobtrusive to the item's display appeal. Frick has signed concisely with ("8-9") potency in customary fashion. Penciled numbers in unknown hand are noted on the reverse, without detracting from the letter's appearance. Auction LOA from JSA.
