Teammates in potent “Murderers Row” lineups and close friends until a falling out just before a 1934 tour of Japan, Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig are easily the most coveted coupling on an autographed baseball. This unofficial sphere is signed by both. Showcasing alternating red-and-black laces, the orb is affected by a series of surface abrasions and a toned surface. On the sweet spot, Ruth’s steel tip fountain pen scripting projects (“1-2”) strength and clarity. On the adjacent east panel, Gehrig’s penning shows (“2-3”) quality, with surface flaws affecting the first name and “G,” thus preventing higher assessment. Full photo LOA from JSA.
