We're only aware of one other game-action Shoeless Joe postcard that has ever reached the auction block, and that was way back in 2003 when a Jackson scoring postcard sold for almost $2,000. This second example is fascinating in that it also features another tragic figure of baseball history—Ray Chapman, who remains the only major leaguer to suffer a fatal injury on the field. Yes, death and banishment in a single 3-1/2 x 5-1/2" postcard. The central image has turned sepia over time, while the left side, right edge, and clipped upper-right corner remain black and white. (Likely from having been protected through past framing.) Minor peripheral surface wear otherwise. Period notations on the reverse read, "Ray Chapman scoring / Joe Jackson watching."
