Great fun is had with this wildly popular and wildly painted non-sport set. Marketed by Topps under the dummy company name “Bubbles Inc” in 1962, the outrageous Mars Attacks series has blossomed into a collecting legend. At a time when the sci-fi genre was taking off with packed movie houses for Saturday matinees, this entertaining and often gory series sparked parental outrage, leading Topps to halt production. As is typical with banned or forbidden items, this classic issue only grew more popular and is generally considered the biggest non-sport prize of the post-WWII era.
Blessed with the zany artwork of genius pulp magazine, comic book and paperback illustrator Norm Saunders, these wild and colorful cards top the charts, with demand always at maximum. This complete set of (55) is nicely matched with brilliant colors and pleasing gloss, ranging in condition as (80% VG-EX to EX, 20% GD to VG). Key cards are: #1 The Invasion Begins (VG-EX, oc), #17 Beast and the Beauty (EX), #21 Prize Capture (VG), #36 Destroying a Dog (VG), #55 Checklist (EX, marked). Offered very reasonably, this non-sport treasure is a must.
