As Willard Mullin was commissioned to design the cover for the New York Mets’ 1968 yearbook, he was no stranger to heartbreak, having composed countless Brooklyn Dodger publications as that team struggled mightily to supplant its rivals in the Bronx. And while the ’68 Mets were fresh off of a 101-loss season and fifth last-place showing in their six-year history, the promised land (although unbeknownst to most) was just around the corner! This 1968 Mets Yearbook is autographed by (26) members of that determined roster. Executed in blue ballpoint, these are period signatures, as opposed to the “reunion” type. The autographs show (“9”) or better quality throughout and include: Agee, Berra (coach), Boswell, Buchek, Cardwell, Charles, Collins, Connors, Grote, Harrelson, Jackson, Jones, Koonce, Kranepool, Linz, Martin, Pignatano (coach), Ryan, Selma, Shamsky, Short, Stahl, Swoboda, Taylor and Weis. Additionally, on page 9, a full-page color photo is autographed by Tom Seaver. The publication presents beautifully, with covers/crisp pages intact. Comes with an auction LOA from JSA.
