Attempting to become the first National League team to win back-to-back World Series titles since the 1921-1922 New York Giants, the 1968 St. Louis Cardinals were eight outs away from that feat before a furious Detroit rally erased a 3 games-to-1 deficit. This baseball is autographed by (20) members of that Gateway City squad. The clean and creamy ONL Giles orb (grade “8”) is signed in ballpoint. Signatures vary to show as much as (“9”) strength to (“5”). Includes: Sweet Spot: Schoendienst (manager, “8” strength); North Panel: Maris (“8” strength), Granger, Schofield, Muffett (coach) and Brock (“5-6” strength); South Panel: Carlton (“5” strength), Washburn, Hughes, McCarver, Gibson (“8-9” strength) and Willis (d.1977); West Panel: Tolan and Nelson; East Panel: Maxvill, Edwards, Spiezio, Flood (“6” strength), Gagliano and Briles.
