Engulfed in the sizable shadow of the New York Yankees, he Cleveland Indians were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. The 1955 installment offers a microcosm of the Tribe’s predicament: finishing with 92 or more wins for the sixth consecutive season, Cleveland could only take a back seat to the front-running pinstripers. The Indians held sole possession of the top spot, enjoying a two-game buffer on September 14. But a 3-6 finish relegated them to second place. They had competed with foes convincingly, even winning the season series from the Yanks (13-9). Only the lowly Senators bested the Indians in overall head-to-head play that season. And in the end, it cost them dearly. This baseball is autographed by (32) members of that bridesmaid squad. The clean and creamy OAL Harridge orb (grade “7-8”) features ballpoint pennings that average (“8”) potency. Includes: Sweet Spot: Lopez (manager); North Panel: Kiner, Avila, Narleski, Strickland, Mitchell, Fain, Foiles, Naragon and Lobe (coach); South Panel: Wertz, Cuccinello (coach), Maglie, Locklin, Harder (coach), Rosen and Kress (coach); West Panel: Wynn, Houtteman, Evers, Feller, Doby, Santiago, Score and Lemon; East Panel: Smith, Garcia, Hegan, Mossi, Kuhn, Woodling and Dente. Auction LOA from JSA.
