Pre-dating PlayStation, X-Box and addicting games of their ilk, diversions like this vintage “Olsen’s Base Ball” were all the rage for those who couldn’t get enough of the game on the sandlots. Housed in a 5-1/2 x 4” cardboard box, the game was produced in Chicago and likely dates to 1922. Included are 30 cards each for “pitcher” (red) and “batter” (blue). All original components are present, including the 14 x 10” two-sided instruction sheet. In addition to game rules, scoring and standings grids, the sheet features an advertisement hawking “Base Ball Favorites,” urging fans to purchase 15 cards for 10 cents or 120 for 50 cents). Further enticing the young diamond aspirant are images of Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth E120 American Caramel collectibles. While the sheet is in its entirety, it has become separated into three pieces and has a series of compacting folds and additional areas of separation. Still, to find an example with its every last element, such as this one, is rare, indeed!
