The 1962 San Francisco Giants took things to their limit with a star-studded roster that included HOFers Willie Mays, Orlando Cepeda, Willie McCovey, Juan Marichal and Gaylord Perry. Following a 101-win regular season, the Giants beat the Dodgers in a special three-game tie-breaker playoff. This earned them the right to face their former longtime crosstown rivals the Yankees in the World Series. As all good things must come to an end, so did this magical season, with Yankees coming out on top in a hard fought seven game series, that ended with a 1-0 game.
Take your collection to the limit with this handsomely decorated souvenir. The offered 1962 Giants NL Champions pennant is listed as “Extremely Rare” in Mike Egner’s 2013 Vintage Pennant Price Guide II.. This full-size flag waves proudly in (EX-MT) condition with bold graphics, bright colors and clean surfaces, with just moderate point wear and a light crack or two on the lettering preventing a top level designation. A swinging batter applique at left is seen making contact with a bursting star proudly labeled “N.L. 1962 Champs”. This batter is surrounded by player names, including four of the illustrious HOFers mentioned above. The rest of the pennant is filled out with the customary city and team names, along with the special additions of “National League Champs” and “1962”.
