To declare that the offered baseball is superior in several regards would be a glaring understatement. Given its unofficial status, its vintage is surmised to be the late-1920s/early-1930s. Its creamy surface, vibrant manufacturer’s stampings and radiant red-and-blue laces might be enough to take one’s breath away. But the (42) bold autographs trump all of the above. In terms of signature “themes,” this souvenir does not follow the traditional pattern. It can be definitively narrowed to the 1930 and 1931 seasons with compliant signers from the Washington Senators, New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs and a small gathering of Chicago White Sox players. The names, of course, speak for themselves. Do they ever! The ball, as stated, defies its age with an unblemished surface and a prominent “Pennant” trademark logo. Steel tip fountain pen signatures, meanwhile, were obviously acquired at various gatherings with different writing instruments. The stunning qualities, meanwhile, consistently maintain (“6-7”) to (“9-10”) in terms of strength and clarity. Includes: Sweet Spot: Heinie Manush (“8”), Firpo Marberry, Babe Ruth (“8”) and General Crowder; North Panel: Joe Cronin (“6-7”), Clyde Beck, Bob Osborn, Al Shealy, KiKi Cuyler (“6-7”), Guy Bush and Cliff Bolton; South Panel: Patsy Gharrity, Lou Gehrig (“7”), Ben Chapman, Sam Byrd, Gabby Hartnett (“6-7”), Ed Wells, Buck Jordan and Dave Harris; West Panel: Cliff Bolton (repeat signature), Art Jorgens, Mal Moss, Carl Reynolds, Rogers Hornsby (“8-9”), Art Fletcher and Bob Osborn (repeat signature); East Panel: Sam Rice (“7”), Charley O’Leary, Joe McCarthy (“9”), Bump Hadley, Pat Malone, Tommy Thomas, Doc Farrell, Lew Fonseca, Tony Lazzeri (“7-8”) and Walter Johnson (“7”); Reverse Sweet Spot: Ken Holloway, Butch Henline, Ossie Bluege, Frank Barnes, unidentified and Buddy Myer.

Accompanying are full photo LOAs from JSA and PSA/DNA. Of note is that while PSA/DNA is of the opinion that Gabby Hartnett’s signature is of the “clubhouse” variety, JSA lists it as a genuine Hall of Fame signature. Additionally, both sources cite (44) for the number of signatures. By our count, there are (42) with (2) vintage handwritten notations.
