In an epic rivalry that produced seven World Series showdowns in 16 seasons, the third installment of the Bronx-Brooklyn battles set the Yankees to their first of a record five successive world titles. Secured by an ardent fan at Yankee Stadium, this 1949 World Series program is autographed by (29) of that Fall Classic’s participants. While the 48-page guide is complete, it has endured wear and compacting folds common to stadium-issued publications of this era. But the main attraction is a gathering of blue ink signatures which, for the most part, show (“9”) or better potency. On the appropriate likenesses (on the interior pages), signatures include: Hank Bauer, Brown, Tommy Byrne, Jerry Coleman, Bill Dickey, Joe DiMaggio, Tom Henrich, Gil Hodges, Ralph Houk, Dick Kryhoski (signed on a Dodgers page), Johnny Lindell, Ed Lopat, Cliff Mapes, Clarence Marshall, Luis Olmo, Joe Page, Vic Raschi, Pee Wee Reese, Allie Reynolds, Phil Rizzuto, Jackie Robinson, Casey Stengel and George Stirnweiss. On the front cover, seven players have signed. It appears as though moisture has affected some of these scriptings and resultantly, the cover has been protected with a sheet of clear plastic. The front cover autographs include: Rex Barney (“8-9” strength), Roy Campanella (“4-5” strength), Carl Furillo (“7” strength, but blends with the blue background), Gene Hermanski (“3” strength), Marv Rackley (“3” strength) and Jackie Robinson (“9-10” strength).
